My Rating: 4.5 of 5 Stars

When love sneaks up on you, shoot for the heart.

Billy Bradford has a secret, and it's bigger than the fact that he's an assassin. When Tucker Hayes, Billy's "straight" best friend, is injured on a mission, Billy acts in haste, kissing Tucker. Shocked by the act, Tucker runs. But desire is stronger than convictions, leading Tucker to hunt down Billy.

The other guys on the ranch are oblivious to Tucker and Billy's actions as they investigate a new target. Grant Stovall is hung up on his ex, but Roger Burk, their new operative, catches his attention and one small touch isn't enough.

Meet the cowboys of Wild Bluff Ranch in the first book of the Colorado Heart Series, Colorado Wild.

Reading the blurb, one would think that this is solely about the developing romance between Tucker and Billy. One would assume that all other developing romances and stories within the small family of assassins would be told in the sidelines or in the following books. What readers get instead are the developing stories among all of the supporting characters. This may be a writing style that can confuse many who are used to have their stories read one character or one couple at a time. However, as I had all the time in the world of around 2 or 3 days in bed sick, I had the chance to read this story slowly and had a better chance to absorb the quickly developing events as they unfolded.

Yes, it took some time for me to shift gears manually as I am one of those who is used to the usual formula, but I saw this type of writing as an opportunity. It's like reading Homeland or The Blacklist instead of watching these on TV. If we watch, we see so many characters develop within the series as an observer. Yes, it was difficult at first to read this instead of watch it, but once my head adjusted, the fun began.

The story of Bill and Tucker first started a long time ago, way before this story started. We see their romance through the eyes of their brothers-in-arms and I was fascinated at the differences of points of views telling the same story. I liked the way things unfolded between the men. It involved a whole lot of trust and understanding. They were in a precarious situation and they could not risk a regular outing. Once they did, it was not surprise to the readers as we all got a glimpse into the minds of the different characters, but it was a lot of surprise for Tucker and Billy. Obviously, in my opinion, for only us readers got to observe their unfolding romance from different sets of eyes.

Within this story are the unfolding romances between Roger and Grant. This, for me, is the more curious story, for there is a nemesis in their midst who had earned their trust for over five years. This subject in the next installment is really getting my curiosity piqued and I can't wait. Not after that sneak peek!

Colorado Heart Series, the way I figure it, will be written in this same way all throughout the succeeding installments. This is a VERY interesting way in introducing the cast of characters, their interactions, the deeper emotions, the deeper characterizations.

I have to salute the author, Sara York for this endeavor as it must have taken her some time and energy to get the cohesiveness of this story straight in her mind and her readers'. After reading this, I went straight to the sneak preview of the second book and I am intrigued. The unfolding mystery of finding who is the real brainchild of the heinous events is just going to be touched in that second book. I can't wait!
