Happy Happy Release Day!! Blitz & eARC Review: Dakota Skies by Taylin Clavelli

Taylin Clavelli lives in the United Kingdom, about 15 miles south of Birmingham, and a short journey from the world famous Cadbury’s Chocolate factory. She’s married with children and loves her family with all her heart.
Her love of books has been a long standing affair, with Taylin liking nothing better than to lose herself in an imaginary world.
Until she met Lily Velden, she never considered trying her hand at writing. However, after talking ideas, Lily encouraged her to put pen to paper—or rather, fingers to keyboard. Since, with a few virtual kicks in the right place, she hasn’t stopped. Her confidence eventually led to her writing an original work for submission.
Her first published work was Boys, Toys, and Carpet Fitters, developed for the Dreamspinner Press Anthology – Don’t Try This At Home.
Now she absolutely adores immersing herself into the characters she creates, and transferring the pictures in her brain to paper, finding it liberating, therapeutic, and wonderful.
Outside of writing, her interests include; martial arts (she’s a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwon-do), horse-riding, all of which facilitates her love of a wide variety of movies. Her action heroes include Jet Li and Tony Jaa—finding the dedication these men have for their art combined with their skill both amazing and a privilege to watch. If pressed, she’ll admit to thinking that the screen entrance of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean – Curse of the Black Pearl, and Shadowfax in LOTR, to be the greatest screen entrances ever. Her all-time favorite movies are Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
The simple things in life that make her day, putting a smile on her face are:
Laughter – especially that of her children.
The smell of lasagna cooking – it makes her mouth salivate.
The dawn chorus – no symphony ever written can beat the waking greetings of the birds.

Review

My Rating: 4.5 of 5 Stars
For Cowboy Romance Lovers
There is something about a great story unfolding gradually and with surety that grips my attention. I love cowboy stories and am a great lover of old cowboy movies. Dakota Skies is a cowboy story that brought back much of those old movies to mind. It was written without hesitation, the imagery of the action when these did happen was vivid, and the sense of quiet of the environment and the thoughts of the men was very strong.

This is a story, short and simple. It is the story of how two young people's lives could change in an instant. The decisions resulting from those changes set the course of their young lives be it for the good or for the bad.

Sheriff Jamie Carter and twin sister, Sheriff Anna, had been thrust into this trusted but dangerous position from the day their town was decimated by a wandering gang. On the death of their father, the Sheriff, they took over the responsibility of keeping the law and their small town safe. Jamie had to decide though, he had to make some money, look for the gang of killers and to think. He was comfortable in his shoes as a law man and did not hesitate to use that law with his trusty gun. What he was not comfortable about was his growing attraction to men. It was an age where homosexuality was not only considered taboo but was punishable by death.

Kit Brooks was a loner but he knew the land well and used it to its full advantage. Stumbling into a stranger whose horse stole the bed rolls was totally unexpected but hilarious as hell. When he decides to save the life of the stranger, he never thought it would be to someone he would feel a closeness, attraction and a loving to. Especially when said stranger was travelling as a bounty hunter. A lawman by the name of Jay. Deciding to keep his secret to himself was the best course of action but it could lead to their developing friendship and relationship to confusion, misunderstanding and danger.

This was such a beautifully, delicious piece of story told and it did not skimp on romance, action, gore and intrigue. This is a story where the conflicting opinions on sexuality are clearly laid out:  Native American culture versus Western culture. As this is set in the Old West, it is clearly a conflicting set of opinions, especially when the spirit world comes into play.

The minor cast of characters, both real and spiritual, have huge roles here. Without their stories told, Dakota Skies would not have come out complete at all. From the stories of Anna, Morgan, Mason, Tala and even Houston and Nutty, they were such great characters that completed this tale of Old West cowboy adventure story.

As for the romance of Kit and Jay, theirs is a real romance here peppered with a bit of sizzling scenes between the two. However, it is their journey into the spirit world where they are best shown to their advantage, especially when they get guided through the course they finally decide on by the spirits who understood that their love was something that should only be cherished.

Definitely a must read and I loved it.

    1. For once in my life I am almost speechless. I am opening my mouth but not a lot is coming from it. Thank you again from the depths of my heart. I love horses and am an experienced rider. Every one I've ridden has had a lovely personality. This definitely won't be the last book to feature horses.
