I just about cried with this one. No, this is a really funny, revealing and quite open book of the Red Heart series but this time, it is from Travis' point of view and this is the end. The last of the series. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it did. It ended.
Travis shows us what he sees in Charlie; what he saw in him to make him fall in love with the moody, grumpy man who was his boss first then lover and partner. In this book, we see from his eyes just how gentle Charlie could be. We all know how difficult Charlie could be but with this read, we see why Travis just continues to love. It is because he sees things we don't and Charlie would never admit to. Like, Nugget. How that little scamp could run circles around Charlie, get away with it, and still get the belly rub he so hungers for. We see through Travis' eyes that despite Charlie's fears, no, he is not his father in the worst way. He got all the good elements from that father and became a much better, gentler, and loving man.
This is the final book and we finally get to see them have their HEA through the years as they unfold. It could have been told hurriedly to get it over and done with but thankfully, it was not. We get a full picture, like a timeline, of how their lives unfold from that day that Travis asked Charlie to marry him until the day Travis no longer felt that Texas was his home.
This was a truly bittersweet read and I would truly miss these two men. Great series that can be read over and over without tiring. Just a plain good read.
