Published: April 22, 2016
Words: 84,450

It was supposed to be a vacation for Layton and Alex, but how could Layton not help the young son of a fellow Marine. The vacation turns explosive and the case Layton took on for a quarter gets complicated. Someone is out for blood and no one is safe. It’s difficult for Detective Layton Shayne to know who to trust and the situation hits home further when some fellow Marines get involved. Old familiar faces show up as well with hidden agendas of their own. Miss Lucy makes an appearance along with Leticia Carter who has a surprising revelation or two of her own. When Forrest Hanson pays a visit things heat up in an all together different way for Alex and Layton. And what would Layton’s life be without some supernatural elements thrown in for fun.

My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

Layton Shayne is back and this time it's a lot more mysterious and erotic. The vacation he sets off with his beloved Alex is off to a good start, for the first hour at least. Then things get a little bit wacky and out of hand and Layton is forced, gladly, to set matters to right. First though, he is missing on quite a few things he may not necessarily be prepared for. Then Miss Lucy arrives. And then Leticia. To make things even more complicated? Forrest Hanson gets in the picture in a way no one would expect. Oh boy, what is Layton in to now?

As per usual, Antonio has this penchant for upping the mystery within the mystery Layton Shayne is trying to solve. There are scenes readers tend to ignore only to realize later their importance when something drops or rises in a situation. There is a whole lot of things Layton is facing and sometimes he feels a bit overwhelmed. Thankfully, Alex is there to soothe the frazzled nerves and sets things to right. Of course, Forrest comes in later and adds his own brand of TLC. Of course the TLCs may come with a bit of a surprise as well.

This was a purely entertaining read that keeps the reader wondering till the end just where the story is going to. The mysteries of the past installments come into play and whatever loose ends left in them are resolved here. Of course, it does not mean all questions are answered for what is an LS mystery without leaving more mysteries behind?

Overall, if you love mysteries and thrillers, this is a great read to while the afternoon away.
