Celebrating LGBT History Month: Today Is October 11 a.k.a. National Coming Out Day!

Christopher Bram: It Gets Better

On October 11, 1987, half a million supporters participated in the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. Protestors demanded equal rights for gays and lesbians, the recognition of same-sex marriages by the government, and funding to combat the AIDS epidemic. The following year, the date made historic by that march was formalized as National Coming Out Day, a day to celebrate acceptance and to help raise awareness for the LGBT civil rights movement.

In honor of National Coming Out Day, author and Advocate contributor Christopher Bram created a video for the It Gets Better Project, an organization dedicated to inspiring hope for LGBT youth facing harassment. In the video, Bram speaks about his experience with harassment in the Boy Scouts and how each and every one of us can put an end to bullying.
