New Gay Series To Pay Tribute To Sixteen Candles Movie and Other Awesome John Hughes Movies (The Second Edition)
Sam never liked his birthdays because not a single one of them was happy... When he turned 1, he fell face-down into his birthday cake; when he turned 5, he broke his left arm and when he turned 7, he broke his right arm and his left leg; when he turned 12, his house caught fire. Now Sam is about to turn 16 and he is dreading the day. The only birthday wish he has is for Jake who is the Mr. Popular of Arcadia High to even acknowledge his existence, or better yet give him a happy-birthday kiss. But Sam knows that it’s not gonna happen. Or is it?

From BoyMeetsBoy Reviews
I'm not generally into YA, but I loved reading this. The whole "John Hughes" feel (and if you're a fan, you know exactly what I mean) was captured really well and I absolutely loved Sam and his birthday drama.

From Multitaskingmomma Reviews
Turning 16 by Perie Wolford is probably one of the best reads about a young man and his finding love at 16. It is funny, engaging, and a very light read.

Perie Wolford captures that adolescent hypersexuality perfectly, in part due to his fast and clever prose. It's a cute tale and an easy and enjoyable read.

From TheNovelApproach Reviews
I wholeheartedly recommend this book! Turning 16 is a great read. It's light, romantic and funny!

The references to the movie Sixteen Candles was evident but it doesn't overwhelm the story and I liked that. It gave it just of that classic John Hughes vibe to bring me into the story.

From FeministFairyTale Reviews
I really liked Sam and how interesting his insights into high school were. He is a very sensitive boy who is very aware of pop culture, but is hopelessly oblivious when it comes to personal issues like love. The depiction of a sixteen year old gay teenager in the 1980s is not the easiest thing to write and I thought Wolford did an admirable job.

From HeartsOnFire Reviews
This was an awesome look at the 16th birthday of Sam! It really comes across that this is a teenager, confused, funny and totally caught up in his own vision.

I had a difficult time putting it down, because the story kept me entertained. It was light and fluffy. I want to know more about the characters and the world that Wolford has created.

An Interview With The Author

We welcome Perie Wolford, author of Turning 16, a book inspired by the movie 16 Candles. First published earlier this year, he has surprised his fans by coming up with a second edition. This time, it is co-authored with Michelle Doering. We talked to him last night to find out the why’s behind this new edition.

m: We are curious why you decided to release a 2nd edition to Turning 16 (which I loved btw) and also a change in covers?

PW: Well, I wanted to correct a few things that bothered me, including typos and I wanted to involve Michelle, my co-author from my Presence project. She is very talented.... and I think Michelle did a wonderful job. I'm so glad that we are working together on this series. As for the cover, I wasn't completely satisfied with the first cover, so I was trying to come up with other designs... I did about 20 different versions and this one stood out... That that is why I decided to use this cover for the second edition....
For what inspired me to write this book, you can read all about it in my blog.

M: Tell me about Michelle. How did you get in touch?

PW: Michelle....
She wrote a review for my first book, Presence, and she had some constructive criticism about it. She really liked it but thought that there were a couple things that needed to be improved... So, I contacted her and suggested that we should work together. Since Michelle is an aspiring writer herself, she said yes. And I'm happy she did.

M: hmmm I can't find her name... at least for the first edition….

PW: Well, that’s because, as I said earlier, she had no part in the 1st edition.

m: so the collaboration began when you decided to do this 2nd edition.

PW: Yes

m:  What changes can we expect to find in T16 2nd ed. that were not in the 1st ed?

PW: Well, changes.... first of all, what I did is I took away the speech bubbles because a lot of people said that they were distracting... together we researched some of the sport events and activities in high-school and corrected inconsistencies in that area.  And Michelle co-wrote\edited the whole text... She made revisions that she saw fit and I was completely satisfied with what she did.

m: For those who have already read the first edition, will see the difference you think?

PW: They absolutely will see the difference and I think they will like it... every book gets edited and sometimes there are revisions… but all that is to improve the work... and I think the 2nd edition is a huge improvement over the first.

m: So what is in store for the future? Any works in progress?

PW: Currently, I am working on Turning 17. This is going to be released June 15th.

m: Oh that sounds so exciting. I can’t wait to read that one. Thank you, Perie for giving us your time.

PW: Thank YOU for having me here.

The second book of the Turning 16 series...
COMING JUNE 15th 2014

Blurb: Sam is turning 17 this year and he is being pushed towards adulthood too fast. He has a whole bunch of grown-up problems on his hands now. Like how to make a distant relationship with your boyfriend work? Or how to stop yourself from cheating on your boyfriend with a hot friend who wants to be more than friends? Or how to disattach yourself from your parents and follow your dreams independently? But all that is just too much for a seventeen-year-old to handle. So Sam finds himself gravitating towards Eric, a little daredevil who introduces him to fun things, like stealing, lying, drinking, smoking, and having sex.

But we know that things like that can lead you into trouble. Sam doesn't know about that though, and he is headed towards a disaster. Somebody is just gonna have to show him the right way.
