Book Blast, eARC Review, Excerpt & #Giveaway: Love’s Home by Iyana Jenna

Iyana writes M/M short stories and novellas. Her works have been published by Evernight Publishing, JMS Books, Books to Go Now, Torquere Press, Bitten Press, Leap of Faith Publishing, Breathless Press, and Alfie Dog Fiction.
Iyana lives in Jakarta, a city famous for its traffic jams, a lot of cars and motorcycles, and people selling stuff on the roads. You can spend two hours on the road going to a place you can reach in half an hour in a normal situation. Thanks to the traffic jams, though, Iyana can come up with a lot of stories, mostly shorties, as she prefers to spend the time during her trips writing into her cell phone rather than sleeping.
Another thing Iyana loves is kitties. Right now she has three of them. Their names are Cil, Horus, and Betsy, and one kitten. When she doesn’t write, she plays with them, or they would play with her when she writes.

My Rating: 4 of 4 Stars
(Based on the Short&Light Read Category)

Set in the world of Hollywood, Love's Home is a compilation of five short stories about actors and the business. This is a book that has one for everyone, maybe even two. For me, personally, it was one story that struck a chord while the rest was okay.

There is the story of the down and out wannabe actor in A Home for Jesse which I read last May and found to be enjoyable read but did not really strike me emotionally. There were loose ends I did not like and I trully doubted the strength of relationship.

Misunderstandings is the story of two successful actors who fall victim to miscommunication that plagues all couples at one point or another. It all starts small, when a sliver of jealousy creeps between the men. Parker is an Oscar winning actor but he is an indie-actor whose movies are loved by the critics but neglected by the public. Declan is a block-buster movie actor who never won an Oscar nor likely to be but whose movies are adored by the masses. Each man have their own reason to be jealous but what almost breaks them apart is when Ryan, Declan's co-star comes into the picture and does not hide his wanting to be the one beside Declan. This was frustrating to read for as a reader, it was truly a communication problem and could have been resolved easily but the two men knew not what to do or deal with their simple problem.

Will and Pleasure, this one, I did not like for the subject matter is something I truly hate: slavery. Thing is, this is a story that needed to be told for hate it as I do, it is a story that is all so real and continues to happen today. No, I did not like the story, but the way the author wrote this was truly an eye-opener and I laud her for her guts to write about it.

Ya Like That? is a short erotica that I surprisingly... enjoyed. Yes, I did enjoy this little story even as thinking back the story was a bit unrealistic but surrealistic? I am confused about this one. I just know I like it, so there! No apologies :D

I saved to the last: A Single Black Rose. OMG! This one, I truly enjoyed and truly loved! This was a scary read about stalkers who consciously impose physical and psychological harm to those who are in the public eye most of the time. Sean O’Reilly is a highly successful actor who falls victim to a stalking gone wrong. Receiving a single black rose bunched together with roses of different colors, it was enough to send fear to anyone reading or hearing about it. That the boquets were placed by someone on the inside, this was truly a scary situation which soon turned into a kidnapping and grave threat to Sean's lover, Nate. This does not end in an HEA for Sean faces issues he may never get over, even with Nate's and a therapist's help. For me, this is the one story that carried this whole collection and I read it over a second time which just made the story even better.

For those who want short quickies to read, this is definitely recommended.

A Home for Jesse
This ain’t so bad. Jesse pats his laden backpack. He stretches himself on the bench and lowers his head onto the bag, grimacing at the bumps pressing against his head and neck. Awesome. He is going to have major cricks and headaches come morning. That is if he’s not suffering from early signs of pneumonia.

Jesse shifts and grunts and finally gives up. He sits up, takes off his jacket, and spreads it over his front before he lies down again. Moving a bit again to find the most comfortable position, he thinks, Fuck, now my shorts are stuck in the crack of my ass. Jesse reaches down and pulls them free -- ah, that’s better.

He takes a deep breath. So he’s a bum now, is he? His ma would be heartbroken if she knew. She could blame him for being such a hard head and insisting on having his own way. Jesse stares blankly at the leaves swaying on treetops, at the shadows of the swings dancing in the dark, at the stars blinking mockingly down at him. At least the fact that they are up there means that the sky is cloudless and Jesse doesn’t need to worry about the possibility of rain tonight. Getting soaked when the only place he has to sleep is this park would be a pain in the ass, not to mention hazardous to his health. Jesse also hopes no cops will come patrolling tonight.

Weary to the bone, Jesse curls both hands under the side of his face and gives in to slumber.
