Exclusive Excerpt Tour, eARC Review & #Giveaway: Damian’s Discipline (Collars & Cuffs #5) by K.C. Wells and Parker Williams

K.C. Wells
Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C.Wells always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way. K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, where the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings – writing about men in love was even hotter... K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career.
The laptop still has no idea of what hit it... it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.

Parker Williams

Parker Williams began to write as a teen, but never showed his work to anyone. As he grew older, he drifted away from writing, but his love of the written word moved him to reading. A chance encounter with an author changed the course of his life as she encouraged him to never give up on a dream. With the help of some amazing friends, he rediscovered the joy of writing, thanks to a community of writers who have become his family.

Parker firmly believes in love, but is also of the opinion that anything worth having requires work and sacrifice (plus a little hurt and angst, too). The course of love is never a smooth one, and Happily Ever After always has a price tag.

The man who pimped Jeff may be in prison, but Jeff is still living the nightmare, selling himself to men and relying on pills to manage. Then he meets Scott, a young American man who could easily have been where Jeff is now. Scott’s friends extend a helping hand to Jeff, and he grabs it. Leo and Thomas bring Jeff to stay with Dom Damian Barnett until they can find him someplace more long-term. Still grieving from losing his sub to cancer two years before, Damian agrees to help. But when he glimpses the extent of the damage, Damian wants to do more than offer his guestroom. Jeff is not a submissive, but Damian can see he desperately needs structure in his life.  It’s up to Damian to find an answer. He never expects that what he discovers will change both their lives.

My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

This is the story of Damian and Jeff, that story we read as a side story in the previous installments. This is not like the rest of the Collars & Cuffs stories, however, for there is a different feel to the story telling and the way the plot progressed. Yes, this is written by KC Wells and Parker Williams, but the collaboration brought about a much sweeter, gentler romance than the previous books. There is angst, there is drama, but there is a sense of realism all those unfamiliar with the BDSM world would immediately feel at home with. Especially when dealing with brats who know they were not brats, and contracts that are made and agreed upon, only to be broken because of simply being human.

Jeff was the other victim of that dastardly individual called Curtis, the same man who ruined Peter's life. Jeff was not as lucky as Peter though, although 'lucky' is not the word that should be used. Peter found a home, he found a safe place in Thomas who later became the Master he needed to be straight in the head again. Jeff was left and he got left alone in a world he never dreamed for himself. He got away but barely and instead of getting back into a much gentler world, he just got dropped in a miserable one. Until one day, when Scott found him accidentally and he got the rescue he never expected from people he never knew existed.

Damian had lost his submissive and wallowed in his own loss for two years. He was getting there, he was getting better, but his sense of loss was such that he never even went back to the club he loved. Getting an unexpected call from his friends was a surprise. Having a broken, young man live in his home, even temporarily, he could get used to. Being with the young man, Jeff, now that was something else entirely. Especially as his instinct to protect and care for others came to the  fore and fought its way out.

This is the romance that developed between Damian and Jeff. There is no sense of rush, there is no sense of over achieving. Instead, the authors gives us a gradually unfolding love story that starts from zero and ends in a future that just may be a happily ever after. It took a lot of time and learning for both men to find their foothold around each other. Their friends helped and they needed that help for neither one really knew how to handle their relationship. Especially when BDSM was not even in the picture.

That surprised you didn't it? When a series that centers on BDSM comes up with an installment that is not. There is a dominant and a submissive in this story, yes, but that is also where this story diverges from the rest. This story is sweet, it has a lot of learning curves, and a sense of fulfillment for two men who finally find their course in life.

I never thought I would tear up in happiness but I did. Why? You need to read the why of it. Fans who have not read this book yet, be assured - they were really happy tears.

As for Leo and Alex. Well, that is for you to read,  discover, and relish.

General Excerpt
I LOVED it when it was evening and all was quiet and peaceful. No traffic noise intruded into the house, and in the lounge, the only sound was the slow ticking of the clock on the mantelpiece. Give me a mechanical clock any day. Not that I had anything against more modern timepieces, but there was something soothing about the sound. The clock had been my grandmother’s, and I took loving care of it, making sure it was oiled and wound. Right then my evening was perfect: the tick of the clock, a glass of Cabernet on the table next to me, and a worn, hardcover Sherlock Holmes novel in my hands. I’d lost count of how many times I’d read The Hound of the Baskervilles, but re-reading a favorite book was a warm, comforting experience. The wine created a warm glow inside me. I took another sip.
And then my phone rang.
The temptation to ignore its clamoring call was huge. I was happy, comfortable, and anyone ringing me at home during the evening had to want something. All my friends knew my routines, especially since Oliver....
I closed my eyes. I could almost hear that edge of amusement in his voice. “You going to answer that, Sir?” And yes, I could see the gleam in his eye as he awaited my reaction, tense in nervous anticipation. Brat loved pushing my buttons. With a sigh, I picked up the call.
“Damian? It’s Leo. We need your help.”
I placed the wine on the table. “What can I do for you?” My interest was piqued immediately. It had been quite a while since the co-owner of my BDSM club had called me at home.
“Sorry to disturb you, but you were the first person I could think of. We have a boy. He’s nineteen, and he needs help.”

“Why are you doing this? What are you getting out of it?”

Damian seemed genuinely puzzled. “I don’t know what you mean.”

I huffed. “I know how it works. You don’t get something for nothing, not in my game.” I let out a patient sigh. “I get that you’re telling me you want to help, but I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop.” I folded my arms across my chest. “So let’s get it over with, all right? Level with me. What do you expect as payment?”

There was a stunned silence. “You’re kidding, right? I don’t want sex from you. If I wanted that, I could go to a club and pick someone up.” His expression softened. “I understand it’s not easy for you to trust me. I understand that, and I’m sorry. I wish I could say something that would make the pain go away. Anything that would make you believe we want to help you.” I could see the sadness in his eyes. “I can’t, and I know it. You’re the one who has to make the choice.” He stood to one side and gestured toward the front door. “If you want to walk out, go ahead. I give you my word I won’t stop you.” Then his expression grew solemn. “Just know if you do, you’re going to be stuck in this game forever. You’ll never get out, and you’ll die out there.”

My stomach clenched, and my legs shook. It was clear Damian meant every word he uttered. And I couldn’t think of a single thing to say in reply.
