The Wrong Man is a follow up story to The Right Words. In this story, we have Luke's best friend, Brandon, as the leading man. Brandon is a businessman and an artist and is highly successful in both. His store in West Hollywood is his pride and joy and his loyal clientele range from the eager to be wealthy to the fabulously wealthy. His being chameleon-like in his behavior and attitude seems to be just the perfect blend of businessman and friend. He's come a long way and he lives it. Playing temporary doggy-sitter to a twelve year old Labrador was not part of what he pictured his life to be. Especially when the dog's owner just happened to be his ex from high school. The one who got away. The one who broke his heart. The one he never really got over from.
Jake Westley had just moved to this foreign land of West Hollywood, Los Angeles and was just settling in really. As a firefighter, he had long shifts and it is during these days when he needed help for his old lab. He never dreamed that this would lead him back to talking distance with his ex, Brandon Good. The boy he had betrayed for all the wrong reasons back in high school.
Going back with an ex-boyfriend or ex-anything is not really a great idea. Getting swayed into the relationship by a dog spells disaster. So what made this second chance at love better than the first time? Well, for one, there was the adorable Mack who just made sure he got loves from the humans who catered to his every need. Second, both Jake and Brandon had broken up for the right reasons from their former boyfriends. Third, both Jake and Brandon were not in a sexual relationship, they were just 'friends' this time around. Fourth, Jake and Brandon were mature men now and really knew what they were getting into. And finally, there was Luke who saw it all from a distance and became the voice of reason.
This is a second chance at love story and it really, really, really worked. It was impossible not to finish this story in one sitting, what from Mack's beauteous nature to Jake's six pack abs all the way to Brandon's Prada shoes. This is a romantic love story with all the right elements blending in together to make for a great read. Lane Hayes makes you laugh, makes you cringe, and finally cry at the right moments. She also knew how to make things right, even if Brandon thought the ex was not the right man.
