History isn’t always what it seems.
With the battle of Egypt behind them, Alec and Cronin are enjoying the thrill of new love. Though fate doesn’t wait long before throwing them back into the world of weird.
They know Alec’s blood is special, though its true purpose still eludes them. And given Alec’s inability to be changed into a vampire, Cronin is free to drink from him at will. But the ramifications of drinking such powerful blood starts a ripple effect.
With the help of Jorge, a disturbing vampire-child with the gift of foresight, Alec and Cronin face a new kind of war. This time their investigations lead them to the borders of China and Mongolia—but it’s not what lies in the pits beneath that worries Alec.
It’s the creator behind it all.
In the underground depths of China, amidst a war with the Terracotta Army, they will find out just what the Key is, and what Alec means to the vampire world.

My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars
It has been some time since the Egypt debacle that revealed more mysteries than it actually solved. This time, though, Alec is bored and just climbing the walls. YouTube had done his reputation magic and he is now that guy who disappeared in the headquarters. He cannot go out and party or even to a bar. Well, he does not really want to unless Cronin is with him. One complication in their lives: Cronin still has failed in turning Alec into a proper vamp.
As they leap to meet with an elder in England, not for business but to enjoy and dance the night away, something strange is going on with Cronin. Unable to find the answers to the questions he keeps from Alec, he takes him to meet a vampire child, Jorge, who is not only crazy loony with his multiple personalities, he is also one of the most gifted seers ever known to live in the vampire world. What Jorge reveals, it is dangerous and it can mean the death of Alec. But first, they need to solve the riddle: they do not even know why it is dangerous if they don't know the where, what and why of it.
As Alec, Cronin, Eiji and Jodis attempt to unravel the cryptic message, Cronin is getting stranger and Alec is getting stronger. The bond between fated mates is stronger than ever seen before and it seems as though that Alec's blood is the key to it all. One way to find out is for Cronin to stop taking blood from him but that just results into something nastier.
In the meanwhile, there is a mystery afoot, yes another one, this time it is in China. Again, we diverge into a history twisted by the author and it is an awesome twist that just rattled my brains. Yes, plural on the brains for that is exactly how I felt after reading the twist. My brains meets the Terracotta Warriors Walker style.
(Note: This is when The Mummy - Tomb of the Dragon Emperor came to mind. With the addition of Jorge as a side character, I add in Sybil. As the plot moves on, The Fifth Element comes barging in. The result? AWESOME!!!)
This is an action packed read, but not as action packed as compared to the first book. Thing is, we get deeper into a mystery and what drives this on is the need to solve it. Both characters and this reader got tangled up in the mess of a riddle Jorge dumped. The answer, when finally revealed, was just short of spectacular.
When the dust settled, Alec's life is still in danger and you won't get any spoilers from me how it was all settled. This is an HEA, but the but is left hanging. Fortunately, there is a Cronin's III and I want it NOW!!!

About the Author
N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance. She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn't have it any other way. She is many things; a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who live in her head, who don't let her sleep at night unless she gives them life with words. She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things...but likes it even more when they fall in love. She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal. She's been writing ever since...
